Funerals

Personally, I prefer the term 'Celebration of Life' because that's what a funeral should be; a chance to honour and celebrate a life with warmth, dignity, and love.

As the funeral celebrant for your loved one, I will work with you to create a beautiful and compassionate ceremony that celebrates their unique life story. I will start by listening and finding out all about your loved one; the stories and details that will allow me to write a very individual eulogy and paint a vivid picture of their personality, loves and achievements. Whether at a crematorium, chapel or graveside, I will craft a fitting farewell so you can say goodbye in a way that is comforting and true to their memory.

Having attended many funerals myself as a mourner, it’s clear that all funerals are not the same; some are very personal, informed and evocative, others are more staid, traditional ceremonies. Some have even been a little impersonal. It doesn't have to be that way and it shouldn't be that way. There's no formula or template - your loved one's funeral can take whatever shape you want it to and include any tribute that you wish. A celebrant-led ceremony is not constrained by religious belief, formality or doctrine and can focus entirely and completely on the person who has passed away and celebrate the life they lived, however their family wish to shape it. There are no real limits or rules!

Whether it is bright and colourful or more sombre and traditional, there’s no right or wrong and together we will make sure the occasion is a wonderful send off.

Costs

My fee for a funeral service is £220, and this covers:

  • All phone and email communications

  • Face-to-face visit to gather the information for me to write the funeral script

  • The script sent to you to check as many times as needed until you are completely happy with it

  • Advice and guidance on music, readings or poems included in the ceremony

  • Communication with anyone else involved in the ceremony

  • Conducting the funeral service on the day with the script, music and tributes you've chosen

  • A copy of the final script after the service for you to keep

  • Travel for communications and ceremony within a 25-mile radius

Optional Services

Scattering of ashes ceremony - £70
Burial of ashes (Interring)- £70
Memorial service or ceremony (if not at funeral) - £220 (see below)

Recorded tribute - £100 (see below)

Future plans (see below)

What if you don't want a big or formal funeral?

Turn on the TV and it won’t be long before you see an advert for a cheap, no fuss cremation company. All crematoria have daily ‘slots’ for direct cremations where the deceased’s coffin is delivered and respectfully taken through the chapel to be cremated. There is no service and family members do not attend.

Whether the reason for a direct cremation is no fuss, budget or few surviving family, there’s still a life to be recognised, acknowledged and celebrated.

Memorial Service or Ceremony Only

I can create and lead a service (only) at a location of your choice (eg: club, hall, home or venue) or at a funeral director's chapel of rest.

Recorded Tribute

I  can create a short 'celebration of life' video tribute and eulogy using photos, music and other content for your loved ones to share and keep forever.

Future Plans

I can help you make sure your wishes are clear, recorded and shared with your loved ones when you pass away, giving you peace of mind and your nearest and dearest the assurance that they are honouring your wishes.

Option 1 – I will meet with you and go through every aspect of your wishes from type of funeral to music to dress code; from location to charity support. You will then own your written plan which will be clearly stated for all in the event of your death.

Option 2 – I will meet with you and in addition to offer 1, I will work with you to design and write your funeral service, bespoke to your wishes. The cost of this option is 50% of my usual funeral fee and you will own your funeral plan. If your loved ones wish me to officiate your funeral, I will do so and only charge the remaining 50% of my fee. Alternatively they can take your plan, which you own, to another celebrant.
